During a heated debate on his LBC show, the former Ukip leader clashed with a caller who took offence to Mr Farage’s comments.
Earlier in the programme, the Eurosceptic suggested the Eastern European country should not have been allowed to join the bloc in 2007 because it had “not made the transition” from living under "communist rule".
He suggested now was a good time for Britain to be divorce from Brussels because he found it “unbelievable” the UK was in a political union with Romania.
