Governor of the National Bank of Hungary György Matolcsy delivered a speech about the ‘One Belt – One Road’ initiative in Shanghai

Budapest, 29 May 2017 - During their visit in Shanghai over the weekend, the Governor and a delegation of central bank professionals of the Magyar Nemzeti Bank attended the Shanghai Forum dealing with the development of and the role played by Asia in the world economy.

As a key speaker of the Forum, Governor György Matolcsy delivered a speech about the ‘One Belt – One Road’ initiative and about the success of Hungarian crisis management. Organised by the MNB and Fudan University, an international panel discussion took place at the Conference, where participants led by Dániel Palotai, Chief Economist of the MNB, and Sun Lijan, Director of the Financial Research Institute of Fudan University, discussed the impact of changes in the international monetary system on the economies of China and Europe and on their trade.

The Governor of the Magyar Nemzeti Bank was appointed Honorary Member of Fudan Development Institute of Fudan University and the FDDI International Advisory Board of Shanghai Forum. György Matolcsy received the special recognition at a ceremony held in Shanghai. Members of the Board include Joseph Stiglitz, Robert J. Shiller and Christopher A. Pissarides (Nobel Laureates), Robert Zoellick (former President of the World Bank) and Zhu Min (former Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund).

Another achievement of the visit was a cooperation agreement signed by György Matolcsy and Xu Ningsheng, President of Fudan University.
