On Saturday, Pope Francis welcomed an international swimming delegation in Vatican City set up by the European Swimming League (LEN).

"Water is life itself, without water life can not exist," said the pontiff adding that "You compete in water sports, which require constant devotion and strength."

The international delegation made up by 260 invited officials and athletes among them Hungarians including LEN Treasurer Tamás Gyárfás Olympic Bronze Medalist Boglárka Kapás and European Silver Medalist Zsuzsanna Jakabos.

It was a great honor for our team competing at Sette Colli International Swimming Tournament in Rome. Two swimmers, Zsuzsanna Jakabos and Boglárka Kapás, as well as the President of the Hungarian Swimming Federation Dr. Gusztáv Bienerth, and the Head Coach of the Hungarian Team Dr. Csaba Sós have been invited to meet with Pope Francis.

During the special meeting, they also received papal blessings. We hope this will give them and for the entire Hungarian swim team extra strength for the upcoming Budapest World Championships! reported the Hungarian Swimming Federation Facebook page.
