99-year-old woman applies for Hungarian citizenship for third time

The woman first lost her Hungarian citizenship after the Treaty of Trianon. She received it back in 1940 but lost it again in 1945


A 99-year-old Szekler woman has applied for Hungarian citizenship for the third time, according to reports.

The woman, named as Julianna Kolumbán, born on February 26, 1918, applied for Hungarian citizenship in Baraolt, Romania.

Nlcafe reports that she first lost her Hungarian citizenship after the Treaty of Trianon. She received it back in 1940 but lost it again in 1945.

The woman said she has been wanting to apply for Hungarian citizenship for a long time, her grandchildren live in Hungary so this is her motivation for applying for citizenship, she said.

“It doesn’t matter that I am old, but I want to be a Hungarian citizen once again. I encourage more and more people to be citizens of Hungary," she told the website.
