The government offers treatment to a Coptic priest injured in Cairo attack

The Hungarian government offered treatment to a Coptic priest injured in Thursday's Cairo terror attack, said Deputy-Prime Minister Zsolt Semjén on Friday to MTI.

The press office of the Egyptian Coptic Orthodox Church released a statement on Friday confirming that a Coptic Christian priest was killed in Cairo’s northeastern suburb of El–Marg.

The perpetrator was a local man who was detained by Egyptian police. In the attack, another Coptic priest was injured.

Deputy-Prime Minister Zsolt Semjén said the Hungarian government expressed condolences to the Egyptian Christian community for the attack.

The Coptic Christian community can count on Hungary's helping hand," he wrote.

The injured priest has been offered treatment by the government as it did for victims hurt in previous terrorist attacks, "said Zsolt Semjén.

The Hungarian government set up Deputy State Secretariat within the Ministry of Human Resources to monitor the persecution of Christians

Among others, the task of the new government agency will be to monitor the persecution of Christians worldwide and coordinate humanitarian efforts.

The creation of the Deputy State Secretariat came up during Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's visit to the Vatican.
