Tuesday, February 6, 2018

Turkmenistan banned the import of black cars in 2015 and the grace period expired at the beginning of 2018. It is not clear what regulation applies to those who bought their vehicles before the ban.

The President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow is a rather colorful character. Turkmenistan, being an oil rich country, can afford to provide free gasoline to each citizen of the country up to 1200 liters per year; water is also free; electricity is free up to 40 kilowatts per year and for natural gas households have to pay only a small symbolic amount.

The country celebrates several national holidays among them carpets, racing horses, health, and navy days, and it even celebrates water melon day.

The president of Turkmenistan is an accomplished singer-songwriter and an excellent guitar player. He regularly performs in public television with his white guitar.

He enjoys nomadic lifestyle as well; he frequently visits the country side cooking traditional food in shepherd's yurts.

The president most of the time wears a white clothing. White is the dominant color of his office as well reflecting his preference for tradition.

In March 2013, the capital, Aşgabat, was inducted into the Guinness Book of Records as a settlement where most white marbles were used for new construction.

The president's love of white is in agreement with Turkmen tradition. In nomadic cultures, white is a highly adored color; it is the color of milk, the most common ingredient of traditional dishes.

Middle-Asian cultures in general, like white; it is considered a symbol of purity and good luck.

Earlier the year, Turkmenistan banned women from driving. According to news reports, the ban has been triggered by statistical data on traffic accidents, which revealed that most traffic accidents caused by female drivers.
