Fidesz: More respect for the victims of communism

Thursday, May 3, 2018

It is outrageous that the President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker speaks at the 200th anniversary of Karl Marx's birth wrote MEPs of the Fidesz calling on the Luxembourg politicians to stay away from the event. More respect for the victims of communism! - they wrote in a statement released on Thursday.

The ideology of Marxism has led to the death of tens of millions of people around the world and the enslavement of hundreds of millions across the globe. The celebration of the birth of the intellectual father of Communism is a mockery of the memory of these victims.

The event is particularly hurting the feeling of the citizens of those member states who have been under Communist dictatorships for decades. Therefore, we call on the President of the EU Commission not to attend the commemoration ceremony. Juncker is a member of the European People's Party, which condemns the crimes of communism and Nazism the MEPs wrote.

Karl Marx's birthplace - Trier, Germany - hosts hundreds of commemorative events starting this week.

On Friday, a 5-meter-high bronze statue - a gift of the People's Republic of China - will be unveiled; an exhibition commemorating to the father of Marxism will open on Friday where the President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker will be the lead speaker.
